Workshops
Maria's movement workshops draw on Laban, Choreology and Somatic practice to enable understanding of space, rhythm and effort.
Movement improvisation is central to her practice; this opens up a world of experimentation and creative risk taking, and a way into discovering new movement possibilities, clarity and genuine expression.
Maria has led workshops and classes both regularly and as guest artist for actors, singers, dancers and musicians at various institutions and companies including The Royal Opera House,
English National Opera’s 'Live Wires' Programme,
Morley Opera Programme, Associated Studios - Opera Programme, Abbey Opera Training,
Birkbeck Opera and Concert Singing Programmes, British Youth Opera,
the National Opera Studio, National Youth Theatre, Future Talent, Chickenshed Theatre Company, TUZ Repertoiry Company in Perm and Al Jazeera Productions in Qatar.
Maria is the founder and former director of Dance at Birkbeck, University of London, where she developed with her team of international artist tutors the Higher Education Certificate, Diploma, Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance as Creative Practice; running these pioneering part-time adult courses over many years and in enduring partnerships with Sadler's Wells, The Place and Matthew Bourne's Re:Bourne education programme.
